| Crown Green Bowling
We are encouraging people to take up the game and are extending our efforts, already being offered to schools, to anyone interested, in order to attract increased membership of our bowling clubs. We unfortunately lose older members each year for various reasons due to ill health, disability and sadly death. In recent years there has also been a decline at the junior end of the game. We are therefore encouraging youngsters or schools who may be interested to contact their local club. There is also a social side to every Club and for those with a more competitive nature there are men’s, ladies, veterans and mixed league competitions organised by the local associations with a junior league held on Saturday mornings. Special wheelchairs for use on bowling greens are now available and it is with the help of Activity Sheffield that people with various disabilities are able to enjoy a game at three local greens. The greens included are Meersbrook Park, Greenhill Park and Laycocks. If you have a disability and would like to ‘have a go’ please contact one of the Bowling secretaries listed below to arrange a visit. How much does it cost? Adults £2 and Juniors £1. However, if you join your local club it could probably work out at less than a pound a week for the summer season playing as often as you wish. You can join your local club by contacting any of the following: Abbey Hotel, Chesterfield Road Mr M Jackson 239 6888 # Parks with facilities for people with disabilities (wheelchair access and facilities) Meersbrook Park Bowling Club have recently produced a book of memories ‘100 GREEN YEARS’ a history of the century of Crown Green Bowling in Meersbrook Park in the years 1907 – 2007 Price: £5 Further information from Mr Terry Egginton – Tel no. 0114 2557137 or 07980 843007 |
